Abstract
Backgroud:
@EN Hyperlipidemia, obesity, diabetes mellitus and hypertention are associated with common pathogenic mechanism, insulin resistance. Hypertringlyceridemia. Which is frequently seen in glucose intolerance even in Lean, is associated with the
insulin
resistance. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the insulin response to oral glucose. Ingestion and serum triglyceride in the normal persons.
@ES Method:
@ENWe measured insulin. C-peptide, free fatty acid concentration to 75g oral glucose administration in 25 normal controls with normotriglyceridemia and 21 patients with hypertriglycerdemia. In all subjects the body mass index (BMI) was less than
30§¸/§³
and the glucose tolerance was normal.
@ES Results:
1) The levels of the serum total cholsesterol and triglyceride wee significantly higher in patients with hypertriglyceridemia than normal controls. There were no significant difference in the age. BMI, waist-hip ratio and blood pressure between
hypertriglyceridemia and normal control group.
2) The levels of plasma insulin, C-peptide and free fatty acid at 60 min and 120 min after 75g oral glucose ingestion were significantly higher in patients with hypertriglyceridemia than normal control group (p<0.05).
3) Insulin response area had a positive correlation with triglyceride (r=0.489, p<0.01), BMI (r=0.365, p<0.01) and mean blood pressure (r=0.264, p<0.05). stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed a highly significant effect of triglyceride
on
insulin response area, but no independent influence of other factors on insulin response area.
@EN Conclusion:
@ES Serum triglyceride was an important influencing factor in the insulin response to oral glucose ingestion. Accordingly it might be that hypertriglyceridemia is assocciated with insulin resistance syndrome.
